How mangroves help keep the planet cool

In a new global framework, scientists have developed a more accurate assessment of how mangroves store carbon in their soil. The researchers found that previous studies have underestimated the blue carbon levels in mangroves by up to 50 percent in some regions and overestimated levels by up to 86 percent in others. This study will help countries develop and evaluate their carbon footprint and blue carbon inventory that potentially can be used in the global marketplace.
