Peacock, the streaming service from NBCUniversal that launched a couple of months ago, is now making its way to the Roku platform.
The news comes following disputes between the two companies over how advertising would be handled.
Peacock is a streaming service that launched nationwide in the US on July 15, 2020. It’s owned by NBCUniversal, which is a subsidiary of Comcast.
Peacock has various membership levels, the lowest of which is free with a slimmer content catalog and is supported by adverts.
The service features its own original programming, live news and sports, and popular content from Universal Pictures and Universal Television.
Despite being available on lots of other platforms since launch, Peacock has been missing from Roku. That’s now changed, with Peacock rolling out across the Roku platform.
To get Peacock on Roku, simply search for the Peacock channel. If prompted for a code, input PEACOCK.
The only big missing link now is Amazon Fire TV, for which Peacock remains unavailable. If you really want Peacock, Roku is better than the Amazon Fire Stick for now.
At first, it looked like Peacock wouldn’t come to Roku. That’s because NBCUniversal and Roku were in a spat over the latter’s advertising terms.
NBCUniversal and Roku had an existing agreement in place for its TV Everywhere channels, which provides contents from the likes of Bravo and Syfy, but that expired.
Roku offered to extend the contract, along with negotiating for the right to distribute Peacock. However, NBCUniversal took issue with how much cut Roku would take of its advertising.
As reported by Variety, the two couldn’t reach an agreement. In a statement, NBCUniversal said that “Roku’s unreasonable demands ultimately hurt both their consumers and consumer equipment partners”, and planned to pull its TV Everywhere channels from Roku.
However, the two managed to patch things up, forming a detail of which the exact details are unknown. TV Everywhere channels will remain on Roku, along with the introduction of Peacock.
With the introduction of Peacock, Roku now has even more excellent free shows and movies for you to watch—no strings attached and extremely easy to install.
