Facebook wants its users to help those in need this holiday season. The platform is launching Drives, a feature that will allow users to gather food and supplies for the needy.
Coming Together to Give Back on Facebook
The holidays are already financially tough for many people, and the COVID-19 pandemic has only exacerbated this problem. To help take the weight off the needy during the holidays, Facebook has rolled out Drives.
Facebook outlined Drives in an About Facebook blog post, describing it as a “feature that makes it easier to collect food, clothes, and other necessities for people in need.”
Drives will be built into Facebook’s Community Help page, and are easy to create. Hit the Request or Offer Help button, and then select Create Drive. From there, you can detail what you want to collect, and how much.
Users near you will see your Drive on the Community Hub, and can donate by clicking the Contribute Items button appended to your Drive.
In addition to Drives, Facebook also plans on holding a fundraising event, called Peace Through Music: A Global Event for Social Justice. The fundraiser will air on Facebook Live on GivingTuesday (December 1, 2020), and will feature high-profile stars like Billie Eilish, Ringo Starr, Becky G, and more.
The platform will also be encouraging users to create or donate to fundraisers on GivingTuesday, and plans on matching $7 million in donations.
Spreading Holiday Cheer Through Drives
Drives can definitely prove helpful for the needy during the holidays. Donating or creating a Drive is yet another way to bring holiday cheer to your community.
