watchOS 7.2 Is Here to Help Whip You Into Shape for 2021

Apple’s new update for watchOS 7 adds several important features for your Apple Watch. The big one is integration with Apple Fitness+, the new Apple Watch-focused fitness subscription service Apple launched this week.

Since Apple Fitness+ requires an Apple Watch in order to work, that makes this update a particularly crucial one to download if you want to get involved.

Apple Watch Will Measure Users’ Cardio Health

As detailed on the Apple Newsroom, watchOS 7.2 additionally adds a new Cardio Fitness feature to provide a predictor of users’ “overall health.”

This works by measuring VO2 max, referring to the maximum amount of oxygen your body consumes while moving. It does this utilizing a range of Apple Watch sensors, including the optical heart sensor, GPS, and accelerometer.

The Apple Watch was previously able to measure wearers’ VO2 levels. However, it can now measure lower ranges, which covers less strenuous exercise, such as walking throughout the day. If you receive a low reading, you are able to get a low cardio fitness alert, providing information about the best way to improve your fitness levels.

Other watchOS 7.2 improvements include atrial fibrillation classification at heart rates above 100BPM, supported in the ECG app in most regions. There’s also support for braille displays with VoiceOver, continuing Apple’s welcome focus on the accessibility market with its devices.

watchOS 7.2 Is Now Available to Download

watchOS 7.2 accompanied the release of iOS 14.3. Both are free upgrades for users with compatible devices.

You can download watchOS 7.2 using the Apple Watch app on iPhone. To do this, go to General > Software Update. Your Apple Watch will need to have at least 50 percent battery in order to update. It will also need to be in close proximity to your iPhone.
