The Pixel 5 is fairly deep in its life-cycle, with the phone having first launched in October of last year. As Google tends to do around this time, the company is expected to launch a Pixel 5a as a way to get the device into the hands of more consumers.
And while the Pixel 5 is already affordable, the 5a could put it to a price point that’ll interest even more buyers.
As is always the case when there’s a new phone from a major OEM like Google, the leaks are starting. The first set of renders for the device have leaked, and the alleged photos make the phone look remarkably similar to the Pixel 4a 5G.
Google Pixel 5a Renders
It doesn’t look like Google is reinventing the wheel with this one, as the company appears to be sticking with the tried and true design of the Pixel 4a. That is if these renders are actually real. With that said, the leak comes from Steve “OnLeaks” Hemmerstoffer, who has a solid reputation for getting these things right.
The leak claims that the phone features a flat 6.2-inch OLED FHD+ screen, a front-facing punch hole camera on the top left corner, and moderately thin bezels along the edges. The report also claims that the phone will feature a 3.5mm headphone jack and a rear fingerprint sensor.
Speaking of the rear, there’s a square camera bump with two lenses (the leak didn’t suggest the cameras’ specs). There’s also a flash and something the leaker referred to as a Phase Detection Autofocus on the camera bump.

for (var i = 0; i When Can You Get a Pixel 5a?
The short answer to that is that we have no idea. Google hasn’t even officially announced the Pixel 5a, so for all we know, these leaks may not even be real. And if they are, they could be from a prototype device Google is working on that may never see the light of day.
With that said, though, Google has released an “a” version of its last few devices, so we’d have to guess that the Pixel 5 would fall in line and have one itself. The more affordable phones let Google get Pixel-branded devices into more buyers’ hands, which is always a good thing for the company.
If the phone does come out, we’d expect it to launch in the late summer or fall. Google released the Pixel 4 on October 24, 2019, and it followed it up with the Pixel 4a on August 20, 2020. If Google follows that same pattern, we could see this phone come out in August or shortly afterward.
