Is your Yeti mic’s indicator light flashing orange? Even though your microphone will still work, this orange light is trying to tell you something.
The flashing orange light indicates a mismatched sample rate between your Yeti mic and the software using it. Follow the steps below to adjust your Yeti mic’s sample rate and turn the light back to green.
How to Adjust Your Mic’s Sample Rate
To adjust the sample rate of your Yeti mic, you will need to download and install the Blue Sherpa software. This software is compatible with Yeti X, Yeti, Yeti Nano, Snowball, and Snowball iCE. To get started, follow these steps.
Download: Blue Sherpa software for Windows and Mac (Free)
- Download and install the Blue Sherpa software using the link above. Accepting all of the default installation settings will work fine, or you can make custom adjustments according to your requirements.
- When the software opens, it will recognize your Yeti mic. Select the name of your mic in the top right-hand corner beside the Home button (in this example, the name is Yeti Nano).
- You will see the current format setting for your Yeti. From here, select Open Control Panel to open the Windows Sound panel (or the Sound panel on Mac).
- In the Windows Sound panel, scroll down to your Yeti mic, click it, and select Properties.
- Select the Advanced tab in the Microphone Properties window.
- Under Default Format, you can change your sample rate and bit depth. This step may require a bit of experimentation depending on the software you’re using. The recommended format to try first is 2 channel, 24 bit, 48000 Hz (Studio Quality).
- Select OK.
Your Yeti mic should immediately switch from an orange light to a green light when you have the settings correct. If your Yeti is still flashing orange, repeat the steps and try an alternate format in step six.
Green Means Go!
Now that your Yeti is flashing green, it’s time to get to work and take advantage of the full and crisp sound that Yeti mics are known for. The Blue Sherpa software is worth exploring further, as it offers much more than just adjusting your mic’s sample rate.
