Microsoft Teams has been a popular tool to do online meetings. It comes loaded with several features, and the latest addition to these features is live transcriptions. You can now transcribe your online meetings in Teams and get meeting transcription during or after the meeting has happened.
Transcriptions for Your Meetings in Microsoft Teams
As announced on the Microsoft Teams blog, Microsoft is adding a live transcription feature to the Teams app on both desktop and web. Using this feature, you’ll be able to transcribe your online meetings in realtime and know who’s saying what.
Here’s how the company describes this feature in its own words:
We’re excited to now offer live transcription in Microsoft Teams meetings for English (US). Live transcription is a written record of the spoken text that occurs during a meeting. It identifies each speaker, is captured automatically in near real time, and is available during and after the meeting.
Basically, you’ll now get a written record of your online Microsoft Teams meetings. You’ll be able to access these records during or after a meeting.
How Microsoft Teams Transcribes Online Meetings
This feature relies on your meeting details, like the meeting invitation, names of the participants, file attachments, and so on to build a transcription model. This model then efficiently transcribes whatever is said in the meetings.
No human interaction is required for these transcriptions, and also Microsoft deletes your data from their servers once the meeting is over.
The company adds that they don’t use your meeting’s model to train their other products.
Users Who Can Use Live Transcriptions in Microsoft Teams
The live transcription feature currently only works for scheduled meetings in US English.
You must have a Microsoft 365 E3, Microsoft 365 E5, Microsoft 365 Business Standard, or Microsoft 365 Business Premium SKUs license to get access to this feature.
How to Use Live Transcriptions in Microsoft Teams
To start using live transcriptions for your Teams meeting, your tenant admin needs to enable the Allow Transcription policy option in the app.
Then, while a meeting is running, you can click the menu (three dots) at the top of your screen and select Start transcription to begin using the feature.
Keep in mind that Teams will notify the meeting participants that live transcription is enabled.
Better Understand Your Microsoft Teams Meetings
Sometimes, it’s difficult to understand certain words in a meeting. To help you with that, Microsoft Teams now offers live transcription so you can read whatever that’s being said in your meetings.
This will definitely make your life a whole lot easier if you often attend online meetings and struggle to understand things.
