There are several ways you can use Google Assistant to keep up with the latest news. From curated roundups to excerpts on specific topics, you can use a voice command to get all the latest news read to you.
News Roundups With Google Assistant
Asking your Google Assistant “Tell me the news” gets you a roundup of the latest news.
You can also specifiy a news provider (e.g. “Listen to NPR News”) or a category (e.g. “Listen to sports news”).
You can also use voice commands to pause, resume, and stop playback with the usual voice commands. Because this is a pre-recorded roundup, you can also use the command Next or Skip if you aren’t interested in a specific story.
Specific News Stories With Google Assistant
If you want news on a very specific topic, Google Home speakers and smart displays can take it one step further. (This feature won’t work on the Google Assistant app on your phone.)
Use the voice command “What’s the latest news on Apple” and your device will read you excerpts from Google News stories on the topic of your choice. It will also let you know the source for each story.
Good News Only With Google Assistant
If you need something a little different and uplifting, one of Google Assistant’s latest features is to use the voice command “Tell me something good” for good news stories only.
The news you’ll hear using this voice command is curated by the Solutions Journalism Network.
This feature is only available to US Google Assistant users.
