Acer has announced its first 5G-enabled laptop at IFA 2020. The Acer Spin 7 is not only Acer’s first 5G-enabled laptop, but also the first laptop with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8CX Gen 2 processor under the hood.
The Acer Spin 7 is an upgraded version of the existing model, with the processor receiving most of the power boost.
The Spin 7 is the first laptop to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8CX Gen 2 chip, providing support for both mmWave and sub-6 5G spectrums. The Acer Spin 7 will include a 4,096 pressure-sensitive Wacom pen that docks in the side of the laptop, which works well when you switch the laptop into tablet mode via the 360-degree hinge.
You’ll also find a 14-inch IPS FHD touchscreen panel with Antimicrobial Corning Gorilla Glass, two USB-C ports, and a handy USB-A port for older devices.
The other thing to note is the battery life. Acer believes the Spin 7 battery is good for “multi-day” use. The combination of an improved Snapdragon processor and battery technology could mean your laptop lasts for several days on a single charge. Of course, these claims always depend on the level of use and the apps you use, but the prospect of a multi-day battery is sure to make this more appealing to buyers.
The Spin 7 weighs in at just 3.09lbs and is a minute 0.63-inches thin. The size, weight, and battery life combination will make the Spin 7 an excellent prospect for travelers, businesspeople, and students alike.
Unfortunately, Acer hasn’t set a specific release date for the Spin 7 as yet. There’s also no pricing point at release, either.
At IFA 2020, Qualcomm indicated that devices using the Snapdragon 8CX Gen 2 processor would arrive later in the year, so it shouldn’t be too much of a wait for the Spin 7.
