Android 11 (Go Edition) Launches Next Month on Affordable Phones

While everyone out there is dissecting what’s new in Android 11, Google has jumped on The Keyword to announce some of the big changes coming to budget phones with Android 11 (Go edition).

While it’s not packing nearly as much as Android 11 proper, it does promise some pretty big changes. These new features and changes will improve the Android experience for anyone with a phone that features at least 2GB RAM.

The biggest change that users will notice is a boost to the speed with which apps launch. Google says that apps will launch 20 percent faster than they did with the previous version of Android (Go edition). That means users will be able to switch between apps on their phones much faster, creating an overall more enjoyable experience.

Google also noted that it’s adding a spot that shows all of your conversations in a dedicated space in the device’s notification section. This makes it easy to keep track of your conversations with people across all of the different messaging apps. This feature also came to the full version of Android 11, and it’s nice to see cheaper phones also getting access to the convenience.

Android 11 (Go edition) will include new privacy enhancements that make it easier to control how and when data on your device is shared. Like the full Android 11, Google is adding one-time permissions. This feature allows you to grant access to specific sensors just in that instance, instead of granting access all the time. Google has also added the auto-reset feature that’ll make it so unused apps can’t access your data anymore.

The updated OS will also receive gesture-based navigation, which will make it easier to navigate around on larger screens. Big phone displays are coming to more cheap phones, so it makes sense for Google to embrace that fact with this feature.

If you own an entry-level smartphone, you’re probably rather excited to get this new OS version on your device. Thankfully, you won’t have to wait too long, as Google has announced that the update is coming in October.

Any entry-level phone running at least 2GB of RAM will be eligible to update to Android 11 (Go edition).
