Google has confirmed Google TV as its own version of Android TV. At its Launch Night In event, the company announced that the new OS would make its debut on the new Chromecast with Google TV.
Google TV OS Features
The general idea of Google TV is bringing together multiple streaming services into one operating system. Of course, this is far from new, as devices like the Fire TV and Roku have existed for some time.
While Android TV is focused more on switching between different apps for content, Google TV is focused on the content itself. It’s designed to let you switch between shows and movies quickly regardless of where it exists.

Of course, there will still be apps available, but the operating system is designed to make it so you don’t have to think about switching between them.
For the time being, Google TV will only be available on the new Chromecast, but Google confirmed that the OS will be available on other devices in the future.
The New Chromecast With Google TV
All of the rumors about the new Chromecast were correct. It’s a new dongle with Google TV OS installed. It features support for 4K and HDR streaming, so you’ll be able to watch high-quality content with it.
The thing that really makes this Chromecast different is the fact that it actually has an interface and a remote. Rather than just beaming content from a phone or computer, you can control your Chromecast with a remote or with your voice and not have to actually interface with your other devices.

We’ll have to wait until we get our hands on the OS to see how it functions, but from what we saw at Google’s Launch Night In event, it looks solid.
The Chromecast with Google TV is available right now (it’s been available from some retailers for a few days) for $49.99. Most major retailers are carrying the new Chromecast, so you shouldn’t have a problem finding one.
It comes in three different colors—Snow, Sunrise, and Sky (white, pink, and blue).
