Spotify Urges Everyone to Vote in the Presidential Election

In November 2020, those in the United States will be voting on which party they want to win the presidential election.

To help encourage people to vote, Spotify is launching a non-partisan campaign called Play Your Part, with an emphasis on first-time voters.

Play Your Part is a campaign run by Spotify, aiming to inspire its millions of listeners in the United States to get involved in the upcoming November 2020 election.

It’s doing this through a number of different methods. One is the Voter’s Booth hub, which provides resources to help you make an informed choice. Collected here are podcasts that share tales of activism, discuss the daily headlines, explore the history of America’s justice system, and more.

For those who are first-time voters, Spotify will target them with encouraging messages to register to vote from fellow first-timers. This will presumably only apply to free users, who usually hear advertisements.

Elsewhere, flagship Spotify playlists will feature audio and video reminders to get people to the polls. Anchor, a podcast creation platform owned by Spotify, will also give podcasters the ability to donate their ad space to voter encouragement messages.

The Play Your Part campaign is being run in association with HeadCount, TurboVote, and BallotReady. These are three services that support you in registering to vote and give you information about the candidates.

Spotify has also teamed up with artists like Alaina Castillo, King Princess, and Chloe x Halle. They will be voting for the first time and will be curating playlists to help provide some entertainment for fellow first-timers.

Conan Gray, one of the artists involved, said the following in a quote on For the Record:

Our voices need to be heard, and together they will be! Right now, more than ever, we need to fight for the lives of the people we love, and voting is just one of the extremely impactful ways we can do that. Every single vote matters.

Spotify isn’t the only company trying to educate people about the US presidential election. For example, Facebook will limit political advertisements before the election, and you can also speak to Alexa to get answers to your election questions.
