The Windows Insider builds are a great way to see what’s headed to Windows 10, and build version 20236 is no exception. With the latest update to the Dev Channel, you can now tell Windows 10 to adjust the system refresh rate with a simple drop-down menu.
How to Toggle the Refresh Rate in Windows Insider Build 20236
Microsoft revealed the new feature on the Windows Insider Blog. When you visit Settings > System > Display > Advanced display settings, you’ll now see an additional part underneath the standard settings.
This new section gives you a handy dropdown box that lets you choose your ideal refresh rate with ease.
If you’re unsure what a refresh rate is, they can visually make a big difference. In fact, we recently covered the differences between 60Hz, 144Hz, and 240Hz.
What Else Is Inside the Windows Insider Build 20236?
Of course, Microsoft isn’t pushing out an entire update just for a drop-down box. There are a few subtle touches that are coming to Windows 10, too.
For instance, people with the Dev build installed will notice that the Windows Search looks slightly different. You’ll now see the last four things you searched for, allowing for quick access to the files that you need right now.
If something appears on the list that you’d rather not keep around, you can click a little X next to the entry to get rid of it. Also, this list won’t appear until you search for something.
If you don’t like the new feature, it can be turned off by visiting Settings > Search > Permissions and History and turning off Search history on this device.
Microsoft is also pushing out some new fixes. For instance, if you noticed an app kept installing itself over and over, this update will fix that. It also brings some stability fixes for Office apps and resolves some issues that caused BSODS in the previous Insider builds.
That’s not to say that everything is working as intended, however. This is an Insider build, after all, so there are known bugs lurking in the background.
For example, attempting to reset your PC using the Keep My Files feature will throw an error. Be sure to go through all the known bugs in the Insider build page to see everything Microsoft knows is broken with this update.
Some Useful New Features in the Windows Update Build
Microsoft pushed some handy features to the Dev build on Windows 10, so if you’re part of the Insider program, you should definitely give them a try. Hopefully, these updates will swiftly make their way to the main Windows branch.
