Microsoft No Longer Supports Office 2010 | MakeUseOf

If you’ve been holding onto that old copy of Office 2010 all these years, it may be time for an upgrade. The end-of-support deadline has passed, and Microsoft is no longer supporting the software.

What Does End of Support Mean for Office 2010?

To prevent the company from endlessly updating antiquated software, Microsoft gives its software and operating systems an “end of support” day. Once that day arrives, Microsoft will no longer update it.

The company previously stated on the Microsoft Support website that Office 2010 will lose support on October 13, 2020. Now that the deadline has passed, Microsoft won’t patch security vulnerabilities or fix bugs in Office 2010.

Microsoft will also remove support for Office 2010 from its technical support, both online and over the phone. Microsoft has also removed the Office 2010 download from its website.

If you’re using Office 2010, Microsoft does recommend you upgrade to a Microsoft 365 account. If you’re not sure what that is, we covered the differences in our guide on Microsoft 365 vs. Office 2019.

A Spring Clean for Office

Office 2010 is no longer supported, so if you want your software to continue receiving updates and fixes, be sure you’re using a later version of Office to maintain your protection.

Although, if you’re willing, you don’t need to buy a new Office right-away. Microsoft has confirmed that a brand new standalone version of Office is releasing in late 2021.
