AMC+ Is Now Available Through The Roku Channel | MakeUseOf

AMC+ is now available on The Roku Channel, meaning the streaming service can now reach a larger audience within the US. While AMC+ is still in its infancy, Roku has 46 million active accounts at its fingertips.

What Is AMC+?

AMC+ is one of the many new streaming services to hit the market. It costs $8.99 a month, following a seven-day free trial.

The price has been considered by some to be too costly. Online streaming was meant to be a solution to the traditional expense of endless cable subscriptions, instead providing everything in a single place.

Now, an increasing number of networks are pulling content from the likes of Netflix and Amazon Prime and launching their own services. AMC+ is the one of the latest in that line.

AMC+ brings together content from AMC, Shudder, Sundance Now, and IFC Films Unlimited. That includes shows like The Walking Dead, Mad Men, Killing Eve, and Gangs of London.

Confusingly, AMC+ doesn’t replace AMC Premier. The difference is that the former comes bundled with the content from Shudder and AMC’s other properties. For now, the two platforms will exist alongside one another.

However, considering that AMC recently announced plans to reduce its workforce in the US by 10% by the end of 2020, it wouldn’t be surprising if AMC Premier went the way of the dodo.

AMC+ has 1 million subscribers, with the company expecting to have 5.5 million customers across all AMC streaming platforms by year-end. That’s a goal that it had previously set for 2022.

AMC+ Is Now Available on Roku

AMC+ is now available through The Roku Channel. While The Roku Channel primarily offers free content, it also acts as a gateway to paid subscription services like AMC+.

AMC+ has already been available through TV providers like Xfinity and Dish, along with platforms like Amazon Prime Video Channels and Apple TV. However, availability on Roku gives AMC+ access to the former’s 46 million active accounts.

The Roku Channel also recently launched as a standalone Android and iOS app, meaning you don’t need to own a Roku device to enjoy the content and potentially subscribe to AMC+.

Is Roku the Ultimate Streaming Destination?

Roku is already an excellent destination when it comes to streaming, offering a broad selection of free and paid content, and the addition of AMC+ is only a positive.

One of the big missing links from Roku is HBO Max due to disputes on how advertising revenue is split. However, Roku recently came to an agreement with Peacock over the same issue, so there is hope.
