How to Delete a Netflix Profile From Any Device | MakeUseOf

Do you have a profile that no one uses in your Netflix account? If so, it’s a good idea to get that profile removed so it doesn’t appear each time you view the profiles menu.

Deleting a Netflix profile is as easy as clicking a few options, and here are some of the ways to do that.

How Many Profiles Can You Have on Netflix?

You can have up to five profiles on a single Netflix account. This is good enough for most users and should cover most family members. However, the number of profiles you have does not affect how many people can watch Netflix simultaneously on one account, as that depends on your level of subscription.

Is Deleting a Netflix Profile the Same as Deleting a Netflix Account?

No, deleting a Netflix profile only deletes that particular profile’s preferences and settings. This doesn’t affect your account-level settings.

When you delete a Netflix profile, the other users can continue to use their profiles and the Netflix account without any impact.

How to Delete a Netflix Profile on the Web

The option to delete a profile is located in the Manage Profiles section on the Netflix website. You might find this menu familiar as this is where you edit your profiles to customize them to your liking.

If you’re deleting a profile to get rid of your recently watched list, you can actually remove the recently watched list from your Netflix profile without having to delete the profile itself.

You can remove a profile from this menu as follows:

  1. Go to Netflix.com and sign in.
  2. Click your profile icon at the top-right, and select Manage Profiles.
  3. Click the profile you want to remove.
  4. Select Delete Profile at the bottom of your screen.

  5. Netflix will display a prompt informing you that deleting the profile will delete all its preferences and watch history. Click Delete Profile to remove the profile from your account.

How to Delete a Netflix Profile on Android or iOS

If you use Netflix on an iPhone or Android device, you don’t need to go to the web to delete a profile. The Netflix mobile app also offers the option to delete Netflix profiles, allowing you to remove unwanted profiles even while on the go.

Just make sure you aren’t using the profile that you want to delete, or the app will display an error.

When you’ve ensured that, follow these steps to delete a Netflix profile:

  1. Launch the Netflix app, tap More at the bottom, and select Manage Profiles.
  2. Tap the profile you want to remove.
  3. Tap Delete Profile at the bottom of the screen.

How to Delete a Netflix Profile on Other Devices

Netflix is available on many other devices such as streaming boxes and smart TVs. And the process for deleting a Netflix profile using one of these devices is pretty similar across the board.

So here’s how to delete a Netflix profile on your Amazon Fire TV.

  1. Open the Netflix app, navigate to the menu items on the left, and choose the uppermost item that says Switch Profiles.
  2. You’ll see all your Netflix profiles along with an edit icon beneath each. Select that edit icon under the profile you want to delete.
  3. Select Delete Profile at the bottom of the following screen.

The process is similar on other devices, so you should be able to figure out how to do it on any smart TV or streaming box using the Amazon Fire TV instructions above.

Keeping Your Netflix Profiles Organized

If someone has stopped using a profile on your Netflix account and won’t be returning, you should go ahead and remove that Netflix profile. This way the only profiles you’ll see on your account are the ones that are actually used by your family and friends.

Keeping your Netflix profiles organized will also help prevent people accessing your Netflix account without you noticing. But you should also consider adding PIN-protection to your remaining Netflix profiles for added peace of mind.
