Early in December, Qualcomm is holding its first Snapdragon Summit event. The company is expected to announce the upcoming Snapdragon 875 processor at it.
However, before the event can go down, the leakers are out in full force, breaking down some of the chip’s likely specs. This time, well-respected leaker Digital Chat Station has posted on Weibo regarding the potential upcoming chip.
What We Know About the Qualcomm Snapdragon 875
Until Qualcomm announces the processor, we’ll have to take the rumors with a grain of salt. While Digital Chat Station has a good track record of leaking accurate information, it’s still a leak, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
The leak says that the Snapdragon 875 will offer one Cortex-X1 CPU core clocked at 2.84GHz, three Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.42GHz, and four Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.8GHz. Those specs are rumored to lead to improved cache and memory bandwidth, which is vital for the chip’s overall speed.
Outside of the actual specs, the leak also suggests that the chip is built on a 5nm process. It is slated to feature an Adreno 660 GPU, as well.
If it features the Cortex-A78 cores, they should deliver 20 percent more power than the previous-generation Cortex-A77. That extra speed comes from general improvements and the smaller 5nm manufacturing process.
That single Cortex-X1 chip will deliver more significant improvements than the Cortex-A78, which will further bump up this chip’s performance, assuming the specs outlined in the leak are correct.
When Will We Hear More About the Qualcomm Snapdragon 875?
The Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit event is scheduled to take place digitally on December 1 and 2, 2020. At the event, we’d expect to hear more about the upcoming chip. We should determine whether these rumors are true or if Qualcomm has some other tricks up its sleeve.
