OnePlus Reveals Update Plans for Nord N10 and N100 and They Aren’t Great

The Nord N10 and Nord N100 are exciting phones coming from OnePlus, but it looks like there’s going to be a pretty serious drawback with them.

Rather than offering two or more major software updates, which is starting to become the industry standard, the company revealed to Android Central that it would only offer a single major software update for the budget-friendly phones.

Nord N10 and Nord N100 Update Plan

As the Nord brand is rather new, we didn’t know how the company would approach Android upgrades. With its flagship devices, the company has a track record of releasing up to four major Android updates. The OnePlus 3 and 3T both received Android 6 Marshmallow, Android 7 Nougat, Android 8 Oreo, and Android 9 Pie.

For the Nord, though, it looks like the company is taking a different approach. The phone is scheduled to ship with Android 10, and OnePlus has confirmed that the phones will get an upgrade to Android 11, and then that’s it.

The company also confirmed that the Nord N10 and Nord N100 would receive two years of security updates. That’s the minimum we’d expect to see from a smartphone released in 2020.

Does OnePlus Not Care?

It seems like OnePlus is just shuffling its new entry-level phones out to the market to pull people into the OnePlus ecosystem. It seems like the company hopes to draw them into more expensive OnePlus phones in the future.

With all that said, phones’ specs are solid for the price, so it might be worth considering them if you’re not too concerned about keeping your phone current for a few years.
