Apple Rings in Chinese New Year With Limited Edition AirPods Pro

To celebrate Chinese New Year and the upcoming Year of the Ox, Apple has released limited edition AirPods Pro in certain Asian markets.

The limited edition AirPods Pro boast a special box and a case that features the iconography of a cow.

Available in Select Asian Markets

They are available for sale in mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and Malaysia, priced at 1,999 yuan in China—the equivalent of $310 in the United States.

Chinese New Year takes place on February 12. The Year of the Ox follows on from the Year of the Rat, which we are currently in.

The limited AirPods Pro can be purchased in brick-and-mortar Apple Stores and through the Apple Online Store in participating countries. Because these are limited editions, with a finite number available, customers may buy a maximum of two pairs. It’s not clear exactly how long they will be available for sale.

Beyond the ox branding on the case, and similar iconography on the box, there appears to be nothing different about the AirPods Pro themselves. Nothing, that is, except for the fact that these will presumably be quite the big-ticket items when they start showing up on eBay and other platforms for those who didn’t have the opportunity to buy them.

China Is a Big Market for Apple

China represents an increasingly important market for Apple. CEO Tim Cook has talked about it being Apple’s future biggest market. Over the past several years, Cook has opened a large number of Apple Stores across China and other Asian markets.

Moves such as this show just how seriously Apple is when it comes to winning over new customers in the region. Should this limited edition AirPods Pro launch go well, there’s a good chance this becomes a future Apple tradition in subsequent years.
