How to Convert WebP to JPEG, PNG, and Other Image Formats

Download WebP Images in Another Format

There’s an extension for the Chrome browser that lets you download WebP images in PNG format. You can use this free extension and download any WebP image from any website in PNG (there are many other useful Chrome extensions you can use as well).

Here’s how you do that:

  1. Head over to the Save Image As PNG page on the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Click Add to Chrome to install the extension in your browser.
  3. Restart Chrome once the extension is installed.
  4. Go to the site with the WebP image you want, right-click the image, and select Save Image As PNG.
  5. You’ll get the usual save dialog box allowing you to save the PNG version of your selected WebP image.

Convert Downloaded WebP Images to Other Formats

If you’ve already downloaded a WebP image, there’s a built-in app on your Windows PC that you can use to convert this image to another format.

This app is MS Paint, which you’re probably familiar with, and you can use it for image conversion as well.

Here’s how you use Paint to convert WebP to another format:

  1. Right-click your WebP image and choose Open with followed by Paint.
  2. Your image should open in MS Paint.
  3. Click the File menu at the top and hover your mouse over Save as.

  3. On this screen, choose the resulting format for your WebP images from the Format dropdown menu. You can choose from many popular options, like JPEG and PNG.
  4. Head back to the Input tab at the top, and click Add files to add your source images.
  5. Select single or multiple WebP images that you want to convert to another format, and they’ll be added to the app.
  6. Once you see your WebP images in the app, click Convert at the bottom.
  7. Choose a folder to save your converted images to.
  8. The app will start converting your images.

How to Convert WebP to Other Formats on iOS or iPadOS

If your iPhone or iPad runs iOS 13 or later or iPadOS, you don’t need to do anything to convert WebP images. Instead, all your downloaded WebP images automatically convert to JPEG by default.

However, you can also use a free app to convert your images to another format, as follows:

  1. Download and install the free Image Converter app on your device.
  2. Open the app and tap where your WebP image is located.

  1. Install the free XnConvert app on your device.
  2. Launch the app, tap the Menu in the top-left, and select Storage.
