TikTok enthusiasts know how creative its users can be. Other than well-known lip-syncing videos and dancing, this app is filled with parody songs, as well as people composing music to everyday conversations.
Another trend is where people take familiar ringtones (like the old-school Nokia tone) and remake them using harmonies, instruments, and beats. Some even create spoken ringtones, based on their popular TikTok characters.
The thing is, turning a cool sound from TikTok into a ringtone is not that straightforward. But it’s not that difficult either, as we will now show you.
How to Find a Ringtone Sound on TikTok
If you’re a usual TikTok user, you’ve probably already come across some fun songs and custom sounds on your For You Page, that you wouldn’t mind turning into a ringtone.
It may be a funny character pleading with you to pick up the phone, or a viral TikTok video that has been stuck in your head for the past month. If you added these videos to your Favorites, or follow the users who published them, you can start there.
window[‘gallery_1’] = new Swiper(‘#swipper-1’, {
direction: ‘horizontal’,
spaceBetween: 20,
slidesPerView: 1,
centeredSlides: true,
preventClicks: false,
observer: true,
observeParents: true,
loop: false,
keyboard: {
enabled: true
},
// If we need pagination
pagination: {
el: ‘.swiper-pagination’,
},
navigation: {
nextEl: ‘.swiper-button-next’,
prevEl: ‘.swiper-button-prev’,
},
});
var images = document.getElementsByClassName(“gallery-1-images”);
for (var i = 0; i For those of you who are newer to the app, don’t worry, there’s an easy way for you to find cool custom sounds. Go to the Discover page and search for ringtone or ringtones, and dive into anything from Harry Styles narrating your incoming call to a BTS Nokia remix (and if you’ve just started using TikTok, you may want to know what the For You Page means).
Once you find something you like, it’s time to turn it into a ringtone file. Unfortunately, there’s no button that you can press that simply says “set as ringtone,” and be done with it. But if you want it hard enough, it’s fairly easy to achieve using just your Android phone and a free app.
Download a TikTok Video to Your Phone
The first step is to get the video off of TikTok:
- Tap the Share button on the video (the one shaped like a curvy arrow).
- At the bottom of the pop-up that appears, tap the Save video button.
- This leads to a different pop-up that says Share to. Scroll to the right until you reach the Other option and tap that.
- Now save the video either to your Drive or your phone storage.
window[‘gallery_2’] = new Swiper(‘#swipper-2’, {
direction: ‘horizontal’,
spaceBetween: 20,
slidesPerView: 1,
centeredSlides: true,
preventClicks: false,
observer: true,
observeParents: true,
loop: false,
keyboard: {
enabled: true
},
// If we need pagination
pagination: {
el: ‘.swiper-pagination’,
},
navigation: {
nextEl: ‘.swiper-button-next’,
prevEl: ‘.swiper-button-prev’,
},
});
var images = document.getElementsByClassName(“gallery-2-images”);
for (var i = 0; i Not every video on TikTok can be saved. This depends on the creator’s preferences, as some might want to protect their copyrights. When you tap Share, sometimes the Save button will be missing. But don’t be discouraged, there is a way around this problem—for the purpose of getting a specific sound, not a specific video.
window[‘gallery_3’] = new Swiper(‘#swipper-3’, {
direction: ‘horizontal’,
spaceBetween: 20,
slidesPerView: 1,
centeredSlides: true,
preventClicks: false,
observer: true,
observeParents: true,
loop: false,
keyboard: {
enabled: true
},
// If we need pagination
pagination: {
el: ‘.swiper-pagination’,
},
navigation: {
nextEl: ‘.swiper-button-next’,
prevEl: ‘.swiper-button-prev’,
},
});
var images = document.getElementsByClassName(“gallery-3-images”);
for (var i = 0; i
Extract the Sound From the Video
The next step requires you to download a free app, as ringtone files can only be used if they are saved in MP3, M4A, WAV, and OGG formats. For the purpose of this article, we used Audio Extractor, but you can also download Extract Audio from Video, or Video to MP3 Converter.
- Launch the app and tap on Extract Audio.
- Select the TikTok video from your storage.
- Choose the start time and finish time for the audio.
Most times, you can just keep the start and finish time as-is. However, TikTokers may have an intro that you want to remove. Additionally, if the video is not explicitly made to be used as a ringtone, it could be too long. With this screen, you can cut it down and pick the best part.
On top of that, your phone may go to voicemail faster than the length of the video. So here you can pick which part will be played before that happens.
window[‘gallery_4’] = new Swiper(‘#swipper-4’, {
direction: ‘horizontal’,
spaceBetween: 20,
slidesPerView: 1,
centeredSlides: true,
preventClicks: false,
observer: true,
observeParents: true,
loop: false,
keyboard: {
enabled: true
},
// If we need pagination
pagination: {
el: ‘.swiper-pagination’,
},
navigation: {
nextEl: ‘.swiper-button-next’,
prevEl: ‘.swiper-button-prev’,
},
});
var images = document.getElementsByClassName(“gallery-4-images”);
for (var i = 0; i Once you’ve done that, there are three steps to finish:
- Choose the format (MP3 is fine) and tap Extract Audio and Done (take a note of the file name).
- On the next screen tap Share.
- You should save this directly into the Ringtones folder on your phone. If your Android doesn’t let you access your internal storage, you can install File Manager.
Set Your TikTok Sound as a Ringtone
Now that the file is saved, it’s just a matter of changing the ringtone. Go to Settings and tap Sound, then tap Ringtone. Scroll through the list of sounds, until you find the file name determined by the app. In our case, it was audio_2021_01_22_19_11_46. Then hit Apply.
window[‘gallery_5’] = new Swiper(‘#swipper-5’, {
direction: ‘horizontal’,
spaceBetween: 20,
slidesPerView: 1,
centeredSlides: true,
preventClicks: false,
observer: true,
observeParents: true,
loop: false,
keyboard: {
enabled: true
},
// If we need pagination
pagination: {
el: ‘.swiper-pagination’,
},
navigation: {
nextEl: ‘.swiper-button-next’,
prevEl: ‘.swiper-button-prev’,
},
});
var images = document.getElementsByClassName(“gallery-5-images”);
for (var i = 0; i While this action changes the call ringtone for the phone, it doesn’t always change it for all apps that receive calls, such as WhatsApp. For that, you will have to go into settings in the app, tap Notifications, and scroll down to Calls to pick the new sound.
Just like you can customize your ringtone, you can do the same with the alarm on your Android. The steps are mostly the same, you just need to save the extracted file under your Alarms folder instead, and then it’s easy to change it in the settings.
If you want a customized sound for an alarm (instead of just a funny TikTok song), you can search for alarm or alarmsound on the Discover page.
A lot of the results will be a spoof of people waking up to the native Android alarm. But if you scroll long enough, you’ll come across your favorite TikTokers screaming at you to wake up, or gently coaxing you out of your slumber.
Other Ringtones Resources for the Lazy
Hopefully, after reading this article, you are now a master at creating custom ringtones from TikTok. You may even create them for your friends in your spare time (if they are not the kind of people who always keep their phones on silent).
But if you feel that this is just too much hassle and that viral video is not worth a good chunk of your hour, you can still personalize your phone. Try one of the free ringtones that sound like real phones, or maybe search the best sites to download free ringtones.
