Stories are getting a new look on Instagram’s desktop site. The redesign offers a more immersive experience when browsing through Stories.
Instagram Stories on Desktop Get Revamped
When you select a Story from your desktop computer, you’ll be presented with a carousel of Stories that you can click through. Instead of just seeing a single story on your screen, you’ll get to see previews of the Story you just watched, as well as what Story is coming up next.
This might seem like a small change, but it’s better than the Story layout that Instagram previously had on desktop. Before this, you weren’t able to see which Stories are coming up next, so you would be blindly browsing through content.
In addition to the fancy new carousel-style layout, Stories on desktop have also been made larger, and now come with pause/play and mute/unmute buttons.
Stories Are All the Rage
Instagram’s update to its desktop Story viewer has come at just the right time. With almost every popular social media app experimenting with ephemeral content, Instagram will need to make its Story interface stand out. Not only has Twitter introduced Fleets, but even LinkedIn and Pinterest have started experimenting with this kind of content as well.
