Despite claims that it would continue to support the PS4 console after the release of the PS5, Sony seems to have decided it won’t be manufacturing certain models of the PS4 console any more.
Is the PS4 Being Discontinued by Sony?
When Sony released the PS5, it told consumers that support for the PS4 would continue for around the next three to four years.
However, evidence has arisen that seems to suggest that the Japanese console giant will not be manufacturing certain PS4 models any more.
“Dear customers: due to the manufacturer ending production, the following products will not be restocked.”

According to a tweet by Cheesemeister, signs in Japanese stores claim that certain models won’t be in stock any more because of Sony ending the console’s production.
So, while Sony has new PS4 releases penciled in for the next couple of years, grabbing new PS4 consoles to play them may not be such a straightforward task.
Which PS4 Models Are Being Discontinued?
Sony has yet to confirm or deny the claims that it will discontinue the PS4, which probably doesn’t do much for consumer confidence.
According to the shop signs, the models that Sony has discontinued are the PS4 500GB in glacier white, PS4 1TB in jet black, PS4 1TB in glacier white, PS4 2TB in jet black, and the PS4 Pro 1TB in jet black.
So, that is pretty much all the PS4 models, then…good job there may be a PS5 Pro in the works.
Can You Still Buy a PS4?
You can still buy a PS4, yes. You can also still buy the PS4 Pro model. However, once stock of these consoles is no more, the likelihood of new stock appearing is slim-to-none.
The official Sony store doesn’t help matters either, kind of confirming the rumors to be true, without actually doing so.
If you head to the store, you will see that the PlayStation 4 Pro 1TB console is currently out of stock. However, a closer look at the page offers a little more insight.

Below the Out of Stock notification is a note to buyers, which reads “LIMITED QUANTITIES AVAILABLE, while supplies last. Item replacement option not available.”
Essentially Sony is telling customers here that “once they’re gone…they’re gone”. So there will be no chance of buying a PS4 Pro from official sources once Sony’s stock has run out.
Considering the Out of Stock notification, we can probably assume that that’s it for the PS4 Pro and other models of the console that Sony will no longer be manufacturing.
Time to Move to the PS5

If you are waiting patiently for a PS5, then this is your best bet. Don’t strain at the leash and grab a PS4 Pro instead – you can play all the PS4 games on PS5, anyway.
Unfortunately, as technology progresses, so does older tech become obsolete. Now that the PS5 is out, we can expect that Sony would encourage would-be customers to transition to the next-gen console.
