Can You Get Netflix on Your Nintendo Switch?

It seems like you can get Netflix on every platform. Whether it’s your TV, set-top box, or phone, the world’s most popular streaming service is available everywhere you want it. Or is it?

If you own the Nintendo Switch, you might be wondering whether you can watch Netflix on it. Let’s find out…

Can You Watch Netflix on the Nintendo Switch?

The Nintendo Switch supports a few streaming services but Netflix is not one of them. At least officially.

That means that you can’t go in to the eShop and download a Netflix app. In fact, at the time of writing, the streaming services that the Nintendo Switch offers through the eShop are limited to Hulu, YouTube, and Funimation.

You also can’t use the console’s web browser to watch Netflix. It won’t work.

However, you can install Android on your Nintendo Switch, and Netflix is available on Android. This is a complicated process that is not supported by Nintendo. Doing this will void your warranty and should only be undertaken by users who understand the process and the consequences.

For most people, it’s best to remain hopeful that Netflix will officially support the Nintendo Switch in the future.

In a 2017 interview with The Washington Post, Nintendo of America’s then-president Reggie Fils-Aime said that Nintendo was talking to Netflix—of course, a lot of time has passed since then and nothing has come to fruition.

Can You Watch Netflix on Other Nintendo Consoles?

Both the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo Wii U had dedicated Netflix apps in the past.

However, from December 31, 2020, the Netflix app was no longer available for new users to download from the eShop.

On June 30, 2021, the Netflix app will close completely for existing users. At that point, no Nintendo console will support Netflix.

For now, you’ll just have to enjoy the limited streaming video options that the Switch supports and watch Netflix on another device.
