There are many Android smartphones on the market from big brands like Samsung, LG, Google, and so on. But every so often, one of the smaller device manufacturers creates a phone that makes us take notice.
That’s the case with the newly-announced DOOGEE S86 rugged phone. Not only does it feature a design that can take a beating, but it has a ridiculously massive battery and a reasonable price point.
What Does the DOOGEE S86 Bring to the Table?
The first thing you’ll notice about the DOOGEE S86 is the rugged design. It’s an interesting look, but it’s certainly not for everyone. If you work a desk job and don’t go to a lot of places where your phone is at risk, you probably don’t need a phone like this. But if you work out in the field somewhere, the somewhat different look is probably an acceptable tradeoff for the extra durability.
The S86 comes with all the drop and liquid resistance ratings. It has IP68/IP69K/MIL-STD-810G ratings, so it’s been tested, and it can take a beating.
The biggest (literally) thing that caught our attention is inside the device, and that’s the absurd 8500mAh battery. If you often find yourself without a phone by the end of the day due to lack of battery life, that’ll be a thing of the past with this behemoth. DOOGEE says the battery should last for at least two days with normal usage.
As this is a budget phone, the rest of the specs are pretty underwhelming, but they’re not terrible for the price. There’s a P60 Octa-Core processor with a maximum speed of 2.0GHz, 6GB RAM, and 128GB storage. There’s no 5G support.
The screen is about what you’d expect. It’s a 6.1-inch HD+ screen with a 720X1560 resolution. That’s a fairly low 282 PPI pixel density, but again, it’s about what you’d expect from a phone this cheap. Obviously, it comes with Corning Gorilla Glass, which is all but expected from a rugged phone.
DOOGEE’s S86 comes with a decent AI quad-camera with a 16MP primary shooter. Obviously, the images it captures aren’t going to rival the latest flagships, but at this price range, it’s a reasonably-good camera setup.
The phone comes with Android 10, which is expected at this price. Hopefully, DOOGEE updates the device to Android 11 at some point in the future, but Android 10 still delivers a good user experience, even if it isn’t the latest and greatest.
DOOGEE S86 Availability and Price
The phone is set to launch on AliExpress on March 15. The retail price is $299.99, but DOOGEE says there will be a yet-unannounced special price on launch day, making the already affordable phone even cheaper.
