Google Meet Adds Green Room to Test Video and Audio Quality

When you’re in a video call, there’s nothing worse than having to wait while everyone sorts out their webcam and microphone.

Now, Google Meet has added a new feature that will let you test your audiovisual quality before joining a call.

Preview Yourself Before Joining a Google Meet Video Call

As announced on Google Workspace Updates, Google Meet now has a new feature dubbed “green room”.

Before you join a Google Meet call, you will see a Check your audio and video button. Click this and it opens the green room, where you can preview your audio and video.

In this space you can confirm all your peripherals are connected, that your network connectivity is stable, and to test out the noise cancellation feature.

This is more advanced than the existing functionality that simply displays a webcam preview.

If a problem is detected, a warning will display that gives tips on how to fix it. For example, your microphone might be muted, there might be an annoying noise in the background you’re not aware of, or you have the wrong output device selected.

This new feature is rolling out today and will be available to everyone using Google Workspace and G Suite in the next 15 days.
