How to Put On an Apple Watch Band

There are Apple Watch bands to fit all styles and purposes, from activewear bands to more formal watch bands. You can change the band to match your outfit or the occasion in a matter of seconds.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to remove your current Apple Watch band to change it for a new one.

How to Remove an Apple Watch Band

Place your Apple Watch face down on a clean surface.

Find the band release buttons. The band release buttons are small elongated oval buttons found on the back of the Apple Watch. There are two release buttons located at the top and bottom of the watch, controlling the top and bottom watchband pieces respectively.

Hold down the band release button, then slide the coordinating band piece across to remove it. Follow the groove of the Apple Watch and slide the band out. Then hold down the other release button and remove the second piece of the band.

If the band doesn’t slide out, press the band release button again and make sure you hold it down firmly.

How to Put On an Apple Watch Band

Lay the Apple Watch face down on a clean surface. Make sure that the text on the band is facing you, then slide the new band in until you feel and hear a click. Do not try to force the band into the slot.

If you don’t feel or hear a click, slide the band left and right until you hear the click.

Your band should now be securely in place and you’re all set to put it on your wrist and wear your watch.

Finding the Right Band

Be sure to pick out a band that is compatible with your Apple Watch size.

Bands for 38mm and 40mm watches are compatible with each other, and bands for 42mm and 44mm watches are compatible with each other.

If you’re not sure what size you have, it’s engraved on the back of your watch on the top right around the wrist sensor next to the Apple Watch model information.

Be aware that off-brand Apple Watch bands may be a bit tougher to attach or may not fit as well as bands sold through Apple. However, off-brand bands do tend to be much more affordable.

Taking Care of Your Apple Watch

Changing your band often can help keep your Apple Watch looking fresh and new. While you’re switching out the bands, also consider taking a moment to clean your Apple Watch since the band and the watch itself can encounter a lot of dirt and germs if you are wearing them all of the time.

This is particularly important if you’re wearing a Sport Band and using it to track your workouts, as sweat will accumulate on the band. Be sure to clean it safely to avoid damaging your Apple Watch.
