Rode’s Wireless Go II Delivers Upgrades In all the Right Places

Rode is set to launch its latest wireless microphone, the tiny Wireless GO II. It’s an ultra-compact wireless microphone with a significant range of features, that’s also compatible with a huge range of hardware, including smartphones, tablets, laptops, cameras, and more, boasting an impressive wireless range to boot.

The new and updated version arrives with the same tiny form factor as the old version, but what new features does it bring to the table?

Rode Wireless GO II Beefs Up Specs

The Rode Wireless GO II includes a dual-channel receiver and two transmitters. All three use a similar form factor, weighing around 30g each, measuring 44 x 45.3 x 18.3cm, along with a battery that holds up to seven hours charge.

Each transmitter includes a digital display illustrating the amount of remaining charge, your input and volume levels, along with your connectivity status to the receiver. The receiver shows the same.

In terms of ports, you’ll find a 3.5mm TRS input, a 3.5mm TRS output, and a USB Type-C port for computer connectivity.

But the crowning feature for the Wireless GO II is its 200-meter wireless range which provides ample opportunity for connectivity, but it does require a line-of-sight. The microphone transmits using 2.4GHz wireless, which also features 128-bit encryption. It also records with a -20dB preamp which should help ensure clarity and at the very least protect against clipping and other dropouts.

When paired with the on-board storage (another handy new feature for the Wireless GO II), which provides up to 24-hours of audio recording, you have a portable microphone kit capable of recording in any setting. However, Rode hasn’t announced the specific size of the internal storage, so we cannot verify the 24-hour storage claim as yet.

Otherwise, in the box, you’ll find furry windshields, three SC20 USB-C to USB-A cables, and a single SC5 TRS to TRS memory cable, and a handy carry pouch.

Rode Delivers Great New Wireless Microphone

As ever, Rode appears to have hit it out of the park with new audio hardware. The Rode Wireless GO II will retail for around $300 and is available at the time of writing, and it clearly builds on its impressive predecessor, the Rode Go Wireless Compact. However, if you want to know about the 24-hour internal recording storage, keep your eyes peeled for our upcoming hands-on review with the new Rode Wireless GO II, which is set to drop in the coming days.
