Sony FX3 Camera Revealed via Twitter Leak

It’s only been two weeks since Sony announced the release of the Sony A1, a 8.6K camera that can capture 50MP images at up to 30fps. But is the company stirring up a little something more?

All we have right now is mere speculation, but Sony could be adding a new sleek and compact camera to its FX series.

A Preview of the Sony FX3

On Wednesday, Nokishita tweeted out an image of the Sony FX3, a camera that might be looking to challenge Canon’s EOS C70 and Blackmagic Design’s Pocket Cinema 6K.

Nokishita is a Japanese tech blog that’s infamous for early, accurate leaks of upcoming photo and video equipment. Despite not being an official source for any optical product companies, some folks go as far to say that information shared by Nokishita might as well be confirmed.

TechRadar once called Nokishita “the Santa Claus of camera rumors.” In response to the tweet above, Twitter user @miemelaar asked “[is] this real, or a concept?” and @rauuru_san replied with “if Nokishita publishes it, it’s the real deal.”

But even if we were to assume the leak was true, how much information does that leave us with, really?

We could assume that the FX3 is part of the FX line because of its name, but the camera bears a symbol that’s leaving many speculators confused. If that white Alpha mark (α) on the camera’s front face looks familiar to you, that would be because you can find the very same one on Sony’s mirrorless cameras.

So is the FX3 a cine camera, a mirrorless camera, or some kind of DSLR-style hybrid? We’ll have to wait for more details to come out. Until then, consider reading our article on the key differences between mirrorless cameras, DSLRs, and camcorders.

What Will the Sony FX3 Bring to the Table?

Since Nokishita’s tweet dropped, the camera’s alleged product specifications have been flying around the web. Nothing yet from any sources that are equally as reputable, though.

Thankfully, we should find out more about the Sony FX3 in the coming weeks. Japan’s biggest photography event, CP+ 2021, is coming this February 25-28.
