The Surface Duo Gets a UK Release Date and a Price Drop

Microsoft’s Surface Duo didn’t have such a fantastic release reception, but it seems the company is keen to make better first impressions outside of the US. Not only is the company slashing the price of the Surface Duo, but it also has a confirmed release date for the UK market.

Microsoft’s Final Overseas Preparations for the Surface Duo

This news comes to us from Thurrott. If you may remember, back when the Surface Duo launched, it didn’t receive great reviews. One central sticking point was how buggy the Duo’s operating system was, but another was its eye-watering price point at $1399.99.

Microsoft has been hard at work fixing the major issues that reviewers found, but its high price tag still stayed where it was. However, Microsoft is planning to give the Surface Duo a significant price drop to $999.99.

This drop is likely in preparation for its overseas release, as critics worldwide prepare to break down the Surface Duo inch by inch. With this lowered price point, plus the Surface Duo’s operating system’s recent fixes, the dual-screened wonder may yet make a positive impression abroad.

Microsoft has also confirmed when UK fans can try out the Surface Duo for themselves. If you’re in the UK, keep an eye on electronics retailers on February 18, 2021.

Scratching the Surface of Microsoft’s Plans Abroad

While the Surface Duo struggled to make a good impression in the US, there may still be hope for it overseas. With all the fixes to the Surface Duo’s operating system combined with this price drop, the grass may end up being greener on the other side.

If you want to know what kind of patches Microsoft has pushed for the Surface Duo, the company recently released some stability updates to iron out the bugs before the Duo’s international debut.
