4 Quick and Easy Ways to Flip a Photo on Windows 10

Flipping a photo makes your photo look like it’s been mirrored. Similarly, flipping a mirrored photo will make it look like how it originally should be.

1. Use Paint to Flip Photos on Windows

You can use the traditional Paint app on your Windows PC to flip your photos. This app might not have many advanced editing tools, but it’s a great tool to make some minor changes to your photos, like flipping your photos.

To use Paint to flip photos:

  1. Open the folder that contains your photo using File Explorer.
  2. Right-click your photo and select Open with > Paint.
  3. When your photo opens in Paint, click the Rotate option at the top. Make sure you’re in the Home tab to see this option.
  4. You now see two options: Flip vertical and Flip horizontal. Select the flip option you want to use, and it’ll flip your photo.
  5. When you’re happy with the results, click File in the top-left and select Save. This lets you save your flipped photo.

2. Use Paint 3D to Flip Photos on Windows 10

You can also use Paint 3D to flip photos:

  1. Locate the photo you want to flip using File Explorer.
  2. Right-click your photo and select Open with followed by Paint 3D.
  3. When your photo opens in the app, click Canvas in the top toolbar.
  4. On the right sidebar, you’ll see four options in the Rotate and flip section.
  5. The last two icons in this section help you flip your photo. The first icon flips your photo horizontally, and the second one flips the photo vertically. Click either option.
  6. When you’re done, click Menu in the top-left and select Save. This is to save your flipped photo.

3. Use Photos to Flip Photos on Windows

If your photos are located in the Photos app, you don’t need to open them in separate software to flip them. Photos itself offers an option that lets you flip your photos, and you can use this to manipulate your images within the app.

Keep in mind this method only lets you flip your photos horizontally. Photos doesn’t offer the option to flip photos vertically.

To use this option:

  1. Launch the Photos app on your PC.
  2. Locate the photo that you want to flip and click it. The photo should open full-screen.
  3. Click Edit & Create in the top toolbar and then select Edit. This lets you edit your photo.
  4. Make sure Crop & rotate is selected in the top toolbar.
  5. You’ll see a Flip option on the right. Click this option to flip your photo horizontally.
  6. When you’re done, click Save a copy at the bottom to save the flipped copy of your photo.
  7. If you’d rather overwrite your original image, click the arrow next to Save a copy and choose Save.

4. Bulk Flip Photos on Windows Using ImageMagick

ImageMagick (free) is a utility that runs from the Command Prompt and allows you to edit your photos in many ways. You can use this tool to flip your photos as well. It offers both single as well as batch image editing options.

This means you can flip several of your photos with a single command. Here’s how you use this:

  1. Download and install the ImageMagick utility on your Windows PC.
  2. Create a new folder on your desktop and call it Flip.
  3. Copy all the photos that you want to flip over to this Flip folder.
  4. Open the Start menu, search for Command Prompt, and launch the tool.
  5. Type the following command to make your Flip folder the current working directory in the Command Prompt:
    cd desktop/Flip
  6. Then, enter the following command to flip all your images in this folder. This command flips your photos horizontally. To use vertical flip, replace -flop with -flip in the command below.
    magick convert -flop *.* *.*
  7. ImageMagick will save your flipped photos in the same Flip folder.
