Framer Adds Sticky Scroll, Keyboard Controls, and Sequenced Animations

Framer’s development team has clearly been hard at work for much of the first quarter of 2021. The UX/UI design tool is seeing a lot significant feature updates to help you create the best prototypes for your projects.

Framer Updates Thrice in March 2021

Framer just keeps getting better: new to the tool this month of March are the Sticky, Appear, Key, and Delay properties.

Sticky Scroll Elements

Using Framer’s Scroll tool and Stacks, you can now create easy sticky elements such as sticky navigation, colliding headers, and fixed pagination arrows. Just select the element you want to be sticky, then select the Sticky from the properties panel. There are four positions you can select (relative to the element’s parent): top, bottom, left, and right.

Keyboard Controls

Framer’s new Key trigger allows you to interact with the tool with your keyboard. When you’re setting up a transition between screen, change the Tap trigger to Key. After that, hit the key you want to register.

“You can take any prototype to a higher level of fidelity by adding native keyboard support to any transitions,” says Framer.

Sequenced Animations and Time-Based Transitions

The new update makes adding features like progress bars and loading screens really quick and easy. When you’re setting up a transition between screens, change the Tap trigger to Appear. You can then set by how many seconds you want your transition to be delayed by.

Framer Upgrades Its Toolkit

While Framer is very rated very highly by its users according to the 2020 UX Tools Survey, it doesn’t have a fanbase nearly as large as design apps like Figma and Sketch. If it continues to add to its functionality this year, however, it’s possible we’ll find another top contender in the world of design tools.
