While Google may have given up on making games for Stadia, it seems that the company isn’t ready to give up on its cloud gaming platform just yet.
9To5Google dug into Google Stadia version 3.9’s code and found all sorts of indications that touchscreen controls are coming to the gaming service on Android.
Touch Gaming on Google Stadia
When digging through the code, there were several lines of text that mention touch screen. Specifically, Google refers to it as “direct touch.”
Here’s what 9To5Google found in the code:
Enable direct touchThis game supports direct touchPlay this game without a controller by tapping, swiping, and/or pinching the elements on the screen. You can still connect a controller using Bluetooth, USB, or the linking code on the home screen.
Not only did they discover the code, but there’s also a graphic tucked away that clearly shows a finger sliding across a screen, further indicating that touch gaming is coming soon.
What Games Will Receive Touchscreen Gameplay on Stadia?
As Google hasn’t officially announced the touchscreen feature, it’s hard to say how it will be implemented and which games will support it. Games like Monopoly have in-game options for touchscreen gameplay, so that’s one we would expect to see.
Until Google announces something officially, we’ll have to wait to see.
