Minisforum Launches New UM340 Ryzen-Powered Mini-PC

Minisforum is set to launch its new mini-PC, the UM340, adding another excellent tiny form factor PC to its ever-growing roster. The Minisforum UM340 features an AMD Ryzen 5 processor and multiple configuration options for RAM and storage.

Minisforum UM340 Mini-PC Set for Launch

The Minisforum UM340 is an AMD-powered mini-PC.

The tiny form-factor device features a decent AMD Ryzen 5 3450U mobile processor. The AMD Ryzen 5 3450U comes with four cores and eight threads, with a base clock of 2.1GHz and a maximum turbo frequency of 3.5GHz.

Pertinent to the Minisforum UM340 is the Ryzen 5 3450U’s low Thermal Design Power of 15W. As a chip developed for the mini-PC form factor and mobile devices, the 15W TDP indicates that the device doesn’t use more power than it needs to. The 3450U can ramp up TDP to 35W when the CPU shifts to maximum processing power.

The Ryzen 5 3450U also comes equipped with an integrated Radeon Vega 8 GPU. It doesn’t deliver mind-blowing graphics processing power, and you certainly won’t be using it to play the latest Triple-A game on High settings, but it is capable of some gaming on Medium settings, depending on the title.

Minisforum UM340 benchmarking results show the mini-PC hitting around 30FPS in PUBG, between 50-70 in Fortnite, and between 16-25 in Far Cry 5. Given Far Cry 5’s massively detailed open world, the FPS drop-off isn’t unexpected.

The Minisforum UM340 comes in three different RAM and hard drive configurations.

  • 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD: $539
  • 16GB RAM and a 256GB SSD: $559
  • 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD: $599

As the UM340 is a mini-PC, it seems only right to talk about its weight and overall size. The UM340 weighs just 500g (around 1.1lbs), and measures 5.03″ x 5″ x 1.81″, delivering decent hardware in a pocket-sized package. Minisforum also includes a VESA mounting bracket in the package, which you can use to mount the UM340 on the back of a monitor for extra space savings.

Finally, the Minisforum UM340 comes with support for Wi-Fi 6, the latest Wi-Fi protocol update, and Bluetooth 5.1 for extra connectivity.

Minisforum UM340: Tiny Computing Package

Minisforum continues to deliver on its excellent reputation for mini-PCs. The UM340 isn’t the most powerful mini-PC Minisforum has ever produced, but simply put, you don’t always need a super-powerful computer, especially for some of the more basic computing tasks.
