Netflix Wins Big at the 2021 Golden Globes

Netflix took home the most awards at the 2021 Golden Globes, far more than its streaming rivals, winning for the likes of The Crown and The Queen’s Gambit.

In an unprecedented year for the world, let alone the entertainment industry, Netflix managed to pump out shows of consistent high quality.

What Awards Did Netflix Win?

The 2021 Golden Globes were mostly in favor of Netflix. The service won awards for The Crown (Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Drama), Trial of the Chicago 7 (Best Screenplay), I Care A Lot (Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical), Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (Best Actor), and The Queen’s Gambit (Best Actress in a Limited Series, Best Limited Series).

Other streaming services didn’t go home empty-handed. Jason Sudeikis won Best Actor in a Comedy TV Series for Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso, Amazon Studios won multiple awards for Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, and Soul on Disney+ got two awards for Best Animated Picture and Best Original Score.

Hulu and HBO Max also won for Nomadland and Judas and the Black Messiah respectively (though these were produced by other studios and are just streaming on the services).

With Netflix promising to release a new film every week in 2021, alongside its TV output, the giant could sweep awards up next year too—though who knows what the streaming landscape will look like by then.
