Procreate Celebrates 10 Years of Drawing on iPads

Procreate, would you believe, has reached ten years old! The app’s developers are celebrating in style, updating the drawing app designed for those who want to create art on their iPad.

Procreate Is 10 Years Old

My, haven’t you grown, Procreate? It feels more like ten minutes ago that Procreate first hit iPad screens. But no, it is a full decade since the art app arrived on the Apple device.

In that time, the iPad has gone through numerous iterations. So too has Procreate. As the iPad tech has advanced, so too has the ability to create amazing artwork using the popular graphics tool.

What Has Procreate Been Doing for a Decade?

The answer to that question is, in two words: a lot. In a Procreate.art blog post, those involved in the app’s development tell the story of the past ten years.

But where did it all start? James Cuda, Product Designer, Creative Director and CEO of Procreate, says:

When we originally saw Steve Job’s first iPad presentation it blew us away. All we saw was potential, and how good drawing could be on iPad. From there it was a logical progression to trying to make an app that would be the best iPad drawing experience.

So, there we have it. The second the developers saw the iPad, they knew it was a sure bet that their product would perform well on such a device. Procreate remains suitably buoyant a decade on:

10 years later, the aim is the same but much has changed. Today Procreate 5X features a vastly improved engine making the best drawing experience even better, the brushes are second to none and hundreds of original features have been added. A lot of these unique features, such as ColorDrop, QuickShape, Time-lapse, Streamline, Two-finger Undo and Paint Filters have changed how artists work and helped improve the creative industry for the better.

So, we know what they’ve been up to since they launched the app. Improving it! And today they celebrate with another upgrade.

Procreate Remasters Original Brushes

That’s right; if you’ve used Procreate from the start, then you’ll recognize these original brushes. Devs have remastered them for the 10-year anniversary, and you can get hold of them straight away.

All you need to do is head over to the Procreate.art download page and you can grab the brush set for yourself. This should be pretty cool if you’ve never used these brushes before. Especially now that they’ve been through remastering.

Well, what are you waiting for, grab your stylus and get to painting! Just don’t forget to download those OG brushes before the window of opportunity closes.

If you are on Android and you want to try Procreate, sadly that isn’t an option. However, there are plenty of other art apps out there for Android that are like Procreate. You’ll find those via the Play store.
