One of the biggest names in PC gaming, Razer, has laid out a roadmap to become a carbon-neutral company by 2030. Razer plans to run this campaign under the #GoGreenWithRazer banner.
Razer Wants Its Carbon-Neutral Future to Be a Community Effort
One of Razer’s primary goals under the #GoGreenWithRazer campaign is to encourage gamers and youngsters worldwide to be more environmentally conscious. It also wants its community to be aware of recycling and mindful of its environmental footprint.
So far, Razer claims that the community has, in fact, been incredibly supportive. In a press release, Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder and CEO, said:
Through our #GoGreenWithRazer campaign led by our Sneki Snek mascot, the Razer community has been insanely supportive and passionate.
Razer will use product offerings as a way “to leverage its influence and rally gamers worldwide to contribute to the brand’s green cause.”
How Will Razer Make Itself Carbon-Neutral?
Razer’s roadmap to becoming carbon-neutral includes making its offices green first. The company has pledged “to integrate sustainability plans into the company culture and employees’ mindset.” It has also committed to completely eliminating the use of single-use plastics in all its offices by 2030.
Saving trees is just one of our many #GoGreenWithRazer initiatives—with our new Recycle with Razer program, drop off your used Razer gear at any of our RazerStores and be rewarded with a voucher worth US$10 for every item recycled. https://t.co/oabIMEvNHk pic.twitter.com/ukvXKZCLcJ

The next change will be made to Razer’s products themselves. All of its products will be completely recyclable by the year 2025. This includes packaging as well as the parts used in the products themselves. Razer has committed to making hardware that “will incorporate PCR plastics and adhere to an eco-friendly design, including FSC-certified, biodegradable packaging.”
Furthermore, Razer has planned to use its Sneki Snek mascot merchandise to achieve its target of saving 1 million trees. Razer claims that each sale of its Sneki Snek merchandise will protect 10 trees. Also, a new piece of Sneki Snek merchandise will be announced by the company at every 250,000 trees saved.
Finally, Razer has promised to invest in sustainability startups and support them at every turn. This includes leveraging “its unique ecosystem of hardware, software and services to partner with these startups on joint initiatives and meet the environmental needs of the next generation.”
An Ambitious and Much Needed Initiative by Razer
Only time will tell whether Razer’s new green initiative will bear any fruit. But nonetheless, it certainly will encourage other companies to follow suit and fast-track the process of environmental conservation.
The success of Razer’s #GoGreenWithRazer depends on its ability to encourage its community while being transparent about the progress being made with respect to these goals.
