Reminder: The Price of Disney+ Is Increasing From Friday

If you’re on the fence on whether you want to sign up for Disney+ or not, now is the time to subscribe. From March 26, 2021, you’ll have to pay a little extra to catch up on all your favorite Disney+ shows and movies.

The First Ever Price Hike for Disney+

Before you start frantically checking your bank statements and worrying about keeping up with your Disney+ payments, it’s not going to be a huge price increase.

We originally reported on the price hike in our piece on how Disney+ is getting more expensive. Currently, Disney+ costs $6.99 in the US, £5.99 in the UK, and €6.99 in Europe per month.

Now, Disney is increasing the price to $7.99, £7.99, and €8.99 respectively. This is only a single dollar increase for the US market, but a little more for both the UK and Europe.

Why Is the Price Going Up?

Disney hasn’t made an official statement as to why it’s increasing the price of its subscription service. However, the increase is likely due to Disney adding a lot more content to the platform, and the company may need a small price hike to keep its operations profitable.

In case you missed it, Disney added Disney+ Star to its service back in February 2021. This doubled the amount of content on Disney+ at no additional cost to your subscription; at least, at the time.

Now it seems that Disney is upping the subscription fee to match the content and costs that comes with Star. However, the entertainment giant will have to face the ire of its userbase who are now paying more for the content they’re potentially not interested in watching.

If the userbase doesn’t agree with the price rise, the company may find its fans moving to one of the many subscription-based services on the internet that offer movies and TV shows.

However, if the public can stomach the bitter pill, Disney should be encouraged to continue fleshing out the platform and making it an even bigger rival to the big dogs like Netflix.

A Little More Money for a Lot More Content

Disney will increase the price of its Disney+ service this coming Friday, but it’s not for nothing. With Disney+ Star making its debut on the service, you’ll now get a lot more content for your monthly subscription to the service.

Unfortunately, kids using Disney+ will find some titles have seemingly vanished from their library. This is due to Disney removing a few movies from the kid’s lineup, including The Jungle Book and Peter Pan.
