Vudu Is Launching on Amazon Fire TV Devices, Finally

The video-streaming service Vudu is rolling out to Amazon’s Fire TV, bringing 150,000 on-demand TV shows and movies (many of which are in 4K HDR), along with the user’s existing library, to those who prefer to get their entertainment through the Fire TV platform.

A Much-Requested Feature

According to the official announcement cited by The Verge, the ability to stream your entire Vudu library via a Fire TV includes Movies Anywhere titles. Also, any purchases or rentals from Vudu’s website will be available instantly through the Vudu app on your Fire TV.

The official Fire TV app is expected to arrive in the coming days, suggesting a staggered rollout. MUO will keep you in the loop as to when the app will become available to download.

“We want Vudu fans to be able to watch movies and TV shows on all of their favorite devices, and Fire TV has been one of our customers’ most-requested devices for streaming content,” Kevin Shepela, Fandango’s chief commercial officer, said in a press release.

Rich 4K Content

According to Vudu, the service features an extensive library of content in 4K resolution, “including many titles unavailable on subscription services.” This includes recent seasons of such shows as Young Rock, The Walking Dead, and The Flash, as well as new titles coming to the platform later this month, including The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, The Mauritanian, and Soul, which is Disney’s new animated film from Pixar.

Recently, Vudu has expanded its streaming software to consoles and other devices. In 2019, the company released official streaming apps for the new Sony and Microsoft consoles. Also, it expanded to Comcast’s Xfinity Flex and X1 platforms earlier this month.

Vudu is owned by move ticket giant Fandango Media, a subsidiary of NBCUniversal. Before that, the service used to be owned by the US retail chain Walmart.
