Every now and then, a smartphone gets a shiny feature upgrade that catches your eye. The new Cat S62 Pro does just that with a significant update to its advanced thermal imaging tool, allowing you to scan your environment for precise temperature readings, all from the palm of your hand.
Cat S62 Pro Launches With Thermal Imaging
The Cat S62 Pro launches with the third-generation of the thermal imaging tool included with Cat smartphones.
The S62 Pro builds on the previous generation. It can now monitor temperatures from anywhere between -4 to 752 degrees F. That’s a substantial range. As the thermal imaging tool now features over four times the number of thermal pixels, it’s delivered with a high degree of sensitivity.
Cat S62 Pro users can also vary the intensity of the onboard Multi-Spectral Dynamic Imaging (MSX). MSX is the visual side of thermal imaging, allowing you to gauge temperature variations using the scanner. The updated version uses a new visible-to-thermal alpha blending technique to provide greater clarity and make it easier to isolate specific temperate differences.
The updated MSX and temperature scanning is accessed through the MyFLIR Pro app, which you can use to set specific monitoring ranges, set notification alarms, and other advanced thermal imaging features.
Paul Clayton, General Manager for Components Business at FLIR said:
By providing FLIR Systems latest Lepton thermal sensor for the Cat S62 Pro, we are continuing a tradition of innovation that now spans three generations of Cat phones to help professionals perform work more quickly and accurately. Integrating the MyFLIR Pro app also provides users advanced thermography features for the first time on a smartphone, maximizing the utility of seeing and detecting heat energy invisible to the naked eye.
The Cat S62 Pro Is Rugged
Of course, the upgraded thermal imaging tool isn’t the only thing the Cat S62 Pro brings to the table. The upgraded device also carries Cat’s trademark rugged approach to smartphone design.
It’s tested to IPX8, which means the S62 Pro will withstand full submersion at up to 5 feet for 35 minutes. You can scrub it clean after a hard day, and it’ll also withstand drops of up to 6 feet, tested by dropping onto solid steel. Furthermore, the Cat S62 Pro is also rated MIL-SPEC 810H for military-grade use and comes with a Corning Gorilla Glass 6 screen.
Under the hood, there’s a substantial 4,000mAh battery that will last all day, a decent Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor, 6GB RAM, 128GB storage, and a 5.7″ FHD+ display optimized for outdoor, on the go users.
Overall, the Cat S62 Pro looks like another excellent hardware upgrade from a name synonymous with rugged, long-lasting devices. The Cat S62 Pro is available now with an MSRP of $700.
