Google Photos for Android Gets Two New Photo Editing Tools

Google is constantly trying to make its Photos app better for both photo management and editing. In an effort to improve the latter, the company has added two new editing tools to the app. You can now use Sharpen and Denoise to further enhance your photos in Google Photos.

New Editing Tools in Google Photos

As first spotted by 9to5Google, the Android version of Google Photos has got two new tools to edit photos. These tools are Sharpen and Denoise and these aim to make your images sharper and remove grain from the background of your photos.

How to Use Sharpen and Denoise in Google Photos

Using both of these new tools in Google Photos is fairly easy, and they’ve been integrated with the existing editing tools.

With the Sharpen tool, you can remove the blurriness from your photos and make your photos look sharper. There’s a range of values you can specify to achieve the desired results.

The Denoise tool helps remove the noise from your photos. It does so by helping remove the grain from your photo’s background.

If you have Google Photos installed on your Android device, here are the steps to find and use these new tools:

  1. Launch the Google Photos app on your phone.
  2. Tap the photo that you want to test these new tools with.
  3. When the photo opens in full-screen mode, tap Edit at the bottom bar.
  4. From the editing options available on your screen, select the one that says Adjust.
  5. Under Adjust, scroll to the right and you’ll see both Sharpen and Denoise.
  6. To use Sharpen, tap it in the list and then drag its slider.
  7. To use Denoise, tap it in the list and drag its slider.
  8. Tap Done when you’ve edited your photo.

The update that brings these new tools seems to be a server-side rollout. That means you may or may not see these new tools in Google Photos on your phone right away.

If you don’t see these tools, wait a few days and you should get them in your app.
