Amazon’s Eero 6 Router Is Now Compatible With Apple HomeKit

Amazon’s Eero 6 and Pro 6 routers are getting a firmware update that will finally make the lineup compatible with Apple HomeKit. This will make it possible to manage your Eero 6 series router from your iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

The Eero 6 and Pro 6 Now Support Apple HomeKit

Amazon was bound to add support for Apple HomeKit on its Eero 6 devices, as the router’s previous generations all support the service. On an Eero Support page, the company outlines what to expect with the added HomeKit integration.

Not only will you be able to control your Eero router from the Home app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, but Eero 6 also brings the benefit of security. Eero will offer three different levels of security for HomeKit-enabled devices: Restrict to Home, Automatic, and No Restriction.

The strictest level of security, Restrict to Home, provides the safest smart home experience. With this setting, you’ll be able to firewall your HomeKit devices, preventing them from communicating with other devices on your Wi-Fi network, as well as any sketchy apps or services on the internet.

This keeps any bad actors from accessing your devices and obtaining personal information. It also ensures that each device receives software updates from legitimate sources, not third-party sites.

Building a Safer Smart Home

Smart homes are convenient, but many fail to recognize the potential security risks of having smart devices throughout their home. Eero routers—in combination with smart home devices—can hopefully reduce these risks.
