Chrissy Teigen’s new house has the sweetest tribute to her late son, Jack

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend recently moved to a new house, and while the interior is incredible, one of its sweetest features has to be the lovely memorial to her late son. Break out the tissues, folks!

During an Instagram Live on Chrissy’s account this week, the celeb couple gave a quick tour of their new abode while some veggies were heating up on the stove (Chrissy was doing a tutorial on a red lentil soup featured in one of her cookbooks).

The highlight of the tour—besides seeing Miles adorably plopped onto a huge white couch watching TV in the living room—was definitely the large tree that sprouts up from the middle of the house surrounded by a beautiful custom frame etched with images of plants and wildlife. Chrissy called it a “tree of life,” which they installed in the house as a tribute to Jack, the son they lost last fall.

“We dedicated this to Baby Jack, and it’s really beautiful,” John explained during the livestream. “We were inspired by our friend Kelly Wearstler’s house. She has a tree in the middle of it and we thought it would be cool to have one here.”

In a recent interview for People‘s “The Beautiful Issue,” Chrissy spoke about the tree and its ties to her Thai heritage. “It’s important for us tradition-wise—in Thai tradition—that we always embrace the ones that we’ve lost and you know, they’re never ever gone; they’re constantly around us,” she explained.

“We have this new home that we’re building and this tree being planted inside the home,” she said. “The whole reason why I wanted it was so Jack’s ashes could be in that soil and he could be with us all the time and grow through the beautiful leaves in this tree and always be a part of us.”

This sentiment echoes a line she wrote in the beautiful essay she penned for Medium following the loss of her son: “Jack will always be loved, explained to our kids as existing in the wind and trees and the butterflies they see.” And now the kids have an even more tangible representation of their baby brother where they can play and create memories with him.

“You know, he wasn’t just a moment in time, he was real to us and we loved him,” she continued in the interview. “The way that Luna and Miles talk about him is so beautiful and it just reminds me of when I was little talking to my grandpa, who was just sitting bedside next to my mom in a little urn. It’s all beautiful, and I love that tradition carries down.”

Say what you want about Chrissy, but the way she loves her family will always pull at our heartstrings. So if you’ll excuse us, we’re gonna go hug our families now and cherish that moment, and we’re guessing you probably want to do the same.
