Clubhouse Has Already Racked Up 1 Million Downloads on Android

Just a few weeks after making its debut on Android, Clubhouse has already topped one million downloads on the Google Play Store. This is despite Clubhouse still being in an invite-only stage, meaning new users must secure invites from existing Clubhouse users before they can join the live audio chat platform.

Clubhouse Growing Rapidly on Android

Clubhouse for Android was first released in the second week of May but only in the US. A couple of weeks after that, the company made the app available for download worldwide. Despite the wider availability, Clubhouse continued with the invite system to keep its “growth measured” and not overload its servers.

Thus, as first spotted by Gadgets360, it is impressive that Clubhouse has already surpassed one million downloads on the Play Store since it has been available for download worldwide for just a few days.

Clubhouse made its debut on Android after being available exclusively on iOS for over a year. The app’s growth plateaued on iOS in the last couple of months, which further acted as a catalyst for the launch of the Android app.

Clubhouse has soared in popularity since the beginning of this year, with a report indicating that it doubled its iOS app downloads in just two weeks in February. On iOS, Clubhouse is estimated to have been downloaded over 13 million times until February this year.

Android has a wider user base than iOS, and Clubhouse for Android will likely surpass the iOS app in terms of downloads sooner than later.

Twitter Spaces Giving Stiff Competition to Clubhouse

Clubhouse has been facing stiff competition from Twitter Spaces. The latter has been rapidly developing Spaces, its take on live audio rooms, with new features and enhancements.

After opening up Twitter Spaces to anyone with over 600 followers, Twitter previewed Ticketed Spaces, which will allow hosts to sell tickets for their Spaces and generate revenue. In comparison, Clubhouse launched a “Creator First” accelerator program in early May under which it is giving 53 creators a stipend to produce their own audio shows.

Twitter is also working on adding other new features to Spaces, including the ability to schedule reminders for upcoming Spaces, the ability to co-host a Space with multiple creators, and more.

Unlike Clubhouse, Twitter Spaces does not require an invite, and anyone with over 600 followers can host one. This gives the platform a major edge over Clubhouse, which has been slow to add new features.
