You May Soon Be Able to Use Split-Screen View in Google Messages

Google Messages has received quite a few new features lately and the company is continually adding more features to it. The latest one, which has been spotted in an APK teardown, suggests that you’ll soon be able to split the Messages screen on your tablet devices.

Google Messages Gets a Split-Screen View for Tablets

According to XDA Developers, who tore down the Messages APK file, users of this app will soon be able to split their Messages screen to view more content. On one side, you’ll see the list of your messages, and on the other, you’ll have your current message open.

It looks like this feature will only be available for tablet users, as this requires more screen real estate.

How the Split-Screen View Works in Google Messages

This is going to be an optional feature, which means you’ll be able to turn it on and off as you please. To turn the feature on, you’ll have to go head inside the app’s Settings menu and toggle on the List detail view option.

Then, when you go back and tap a message, your messages list will continue to appear while your selected message will open on the right.

This way you can view a list of your messages as well as any individual message at the same time.

Other Upcoming Features of Google Messages

The site above has found a few other strings as well that reveal some new upcoming features of Google Messages. Some of those are:

Send Messages From a Paired Device

One string reveals that the upcoming Google Messages version will allow users to send messages from a paired phone.

Primary Messages Category

Instead of categorizing your messages itself, Google Messages will now let you pick a default category to use for your messages. It’ll then put all your relevant messages in your chosen default category.

How to Get Google Messages’ New Features

Keep in mind that all these features have been spotted in an APK teardown of the app. This means Google has yet to make these features live, and so you’ll need to wait a while before these new features make it to your app.

Do More With Google Messages on Android

Google has updated its Messages app quite a few times in the past few months. Each update has added new features to the app, and if everything goes according to the revealed strings, you can expect Messages to deliver even more features to you.
