Adobe’s June update for Creative Cloud is packed with a bunch of new features, but more importantly, a handful of apps now run a lot faster and smoother than before.
Illustrator, InDesign and Lightroom Classic Now Run Natively on M1 Macs
Some apps from Adobe‘s multimedia software suite Creative Cloud—namely Lightroom Classic, Illustrator, and InDesign—have been updated with native support for Apple’s M1 processors.
When compared to a Mac with an equivalent Intel processor, the company says that you can expect an average performance boost of up to 80 percent.
Adobe seems to be prioritizing M1 support for its most popular apps, as it should be. For instance, Premiere Pro is currently in beta testing for the silicon chips. So, the wait shouldn’t be much longer for video editors.
Lightroom was the first Creative Cloud app to receive M1 support, during the winter of 2020. Photoshop and Audition followed suit earlier this year, in March and April respectively.
How to Update Your Creative Cloud Apps
In order to take advantage of the new features, you have to make sure you’ve got the latest Creative Cloud updates. Here’s how:
- From the home screen of the Creative Cloud desktop app, click Updates from the bar on the left-hand side.
- Creative Cloud will then show you a list of all the apps that currently have a new update available. You can install them one at a time by clicking the blue Update button next to the program name, or hit the Update all button in the top right corner.
Once Creative Cloud has finished downloading and installing the update(s), you’re ready to take on your next creative task!
