After much speculation and an apparent leak from a certain basketball player, Beats has announced the new Studio Buds. The new wireless earbuds will feature active noise-cancelling and hands-free Siri, and are available from June 24.
Beats Launches the New Studio Buds Earbuds
After a lot of speculation and rumors, Beats has announced the new Studio Buds, a new set of wireless earbuds. The Studio Buds cost $149.99 and are available from June 24 (although you can pre-order them now). The new earbuds come in red, black, or white color options like most Beats products.
You can pre-order the Studio Buds now from Apple or Beats directly. The earbuds will ship on June 24 when they’re made available in stores and other retailers as well.
Beats completely changed its take on wireless earbuds. The Studio Buds look completely different from its last offering of the Powerbeats Pro. Rather than the outdated boxy look with ear hooks, Beats has adopted a smaller and less-noticeable design similar to that of Samsung’s recent Galaxy Buds Pro.
Additionally, Beats redesigned the “acoustic architecture” with the Studio Buds. The earbuds are packed with new 8.2-millimeter drivers, which the company claims produce “outstanding stereo separation and low harmonic distortion” for a better listening experience. Apple users will be glad to hear that Studio Buds support Spatial Audio.
What Features Do the Beats Studio Buds Have?
The Studio Buds come with active noise cancellation, which means they’ll produce soundwaves to combat noise rather than just blocking it with the rubber seal. Beats’ new earbuds are also IPX4 water resistant, which means they should have protection against sweat and light rain. If you were wondering, you can use each earbud by itself.
Beats produced a fairly average batter life for the Studio Buds, which can last for up to eight hours on a charge. However, if you use the noise cancellation feature, Beats says you’ll probably only get around five hours of battery.
As with most wireless earbuds, you can get roughly two extra charges from the case. Speaking of the case, it charges via a USB-C cable, but unfortunately doesn’t support wireless charging.
Unlike most wireless earbuds, Beats provides all the Studio Buds features on both iOS and Android. On iPhone, the earbuds pair just like AirPods, have the Control Center integration, and also support hands-free “Hey Siri” commands. On Android, Beats now works with its rival Fast Pair, Google’s Find My Device, and the Google Assistant (with a settings tweak).
Are Studio Buds the Perfect Cross-Platform Earbuds?
Most earbuds released are tailored to one operating system. Samsung’s Galaxy Buds work best on Samsung devices, AirPods lose some features on Android, and so on. Beat’s new Studio Buds are one of the few earbuds to include the same features on both platforms.
With the latest features such as Spatial Audio support and active noise-cancelling, Studio Buds might just be the perfect cross-platform earbuds.
