Microsoft Bing Is Getting a Chatbot to Help You Search

Sometimes, when a search engine isn’t giving you the results you wanted, you need to turn to someone else to get the answers you want. Fortunately, Microsoft is giving Bing users a brand new chatbot soon that will help you quickly and easily find the information you want.

Microsoft Bing’s New Chatbot

Windows Latest spotted the new chatbot in the wild, and sat down with it to see how good it was at finding information.

The chatbot appears as a little button called “chat” that sits next to the search icon at the bottom right. You’ll likely not see this button if you looked on Bing right now, as the feature is still in development and visible to only a few.

The new webchat works best when you ask it questions about the world. For instance, it has a knack for searching up products under a specific price point. When the tester asked for laptops for under $900, the bot replied that Lenovo models are a good pick. However, the bot went on to mention that Lenovo laptops “can run all versions of Windows,” so it’s definitely a little biased.

However, this Microsoft bias does mean it is an expert on Windows products. It knows about the upcoming Sun Valley revamp and hints that it will be “a major update for Windows.”

As soon as you start talking to it like a human being, it begins falling apart. For instance, if you say “Windows 10” to it, it starts talking about owning a Windows 10 machine for some reason.

The bot also locks up when you ask it questions about itself. For instance, if you ask about its favorite movie, it’ll turn the question back on you without answering.

However, as we mentioned earlier, the bot is still very much a work-in-progress. Microsoft has not revealed when it plans to bring the chatbot onto Bing, but when it does arrive, hopefully, it’ll be a handy way to search the internet and find what you want.

Want to Find Something? Just Ask

To help people find what they really want, Microsoft is testing out a new chatbot for Bing. While it isn’t great at talking about itself, it can show you around the internet should you have a burning question for it.

Lately, Microsoft has pushed hard to encourage people to ditch their search engine of choice and move over to Bing. For instance, you can earn rewards for yourself by using Bing to search the web.
