Microsoft Teases the Windows 11 Release Date

Microsoft has just announced the Windows 11 update, which will be coming to computers soon. Now, the company has teased the Windows 11 release date multiple times, so we can be fairly confident on when to expect the update.

Microsoft Has Been Teasing the Windows 11 Release Date

Since it’s announcement, Microsoft has been hinting at October as the release month for Windows 11. We know that the update is coming soon as it was just announced, but Microsoft hasn’t officially told us when… or has it?

When mentioning Windows 11, Microsoft has only officially mentioned the “holiday” period for the software’s launch. Microsoft doesn’t specify which holiday period, so perhaps it means Halloween, as there is plenty of evidence pointing to a potential October release date.

October was mentioned during the Windows event on June 24. At one point in the keynote, a Teams message pops up and reads “Excited to turn it up to 11… can’t wait for October!” You don’t need to be an expert detective to conclude that the message suggests Windows 11 will be released in October.

Insider sources that claim to know with Microsoft’s plans for Windows 11, have also explained to The Verge that Microsoft is aiming to release Windows 11 in October. The sources claim to know this information as it’s been shared with device OEMs in preparation for the launch.

Adding more evidence to the case, most of Microsoft’s Windows 11 press images include October 20th as the date in the taskbar. This isn’t just a one-off, as another marketing image shows October 6th. Regardless of the specific date, Microsoft seems to be teasing an October release.

What’s New in Windows 11?

Windows 11 seems like a bit of a smaller update than you might expect. There’s not too much that’s changed in the new software, it’s mostly just improvements on Windows 10. However, there are some new features.

Microsoft confirmed that Windows 11 will integrate Microsoft Teams directly into the operating system. You’ll find complete integration into the taskbar, allowing you to start new video calls or chats from a pop-up, with more functionality expected to arrive in the future.

Microsoft is also introducing Snap Groups, which is a new feature that allows you to group apps for easy access. Users can group multiple apps that are running simultaneously into a single group. When you want to use the apps again, each app will reopen in the same configuration and screen location as it was previously.

Notably, Microsoft also revealed that Android apps will become available within Windows 11, direct through the redesigned Microsoft Store. The addition allows Windows 11 users to install and access their Android apps, directly within the operating system.

Will We Get Windows 11 in October?

There’s no way of knowing whether or not Microsoft will launch Windows 11 in October. As per usual, the company has neither confirmed nor denied any of the speculation. So Microsoft could release the update sooner than October, or later–we’ll just have to see.
