MacBooks have always been a popular option for many people who value productivity. If you are a Mac user, you can get the most out of your Mac’s productivity features when you’re working within the Apple ecosystem—that is, if you own other Apple devices like an iPhone or an iPad.
Apple’s Continuity features allow you to hop from one device to another within the ecosystem without interrupting your workflow. One such feature is the Universal Clipboard.
What Is Universal Clipboard?
Universal Clipboard allows you to copy-paste content from one Apple device to another, working with everything from simple text to videos and images.
This could come in handy when working on a presentation on your Mac, and you need to transfer several images from your iPhone. Instead of using AirDrop, directly copy and paste your images.
Universal Clipboard may also help view information side by side—saving you from the need to shift windows or tabs on your Mac!
How to Set Up Universal Clipboard
To set up Universal Clipboard, you first need to make sure that your devices pass the Continuity system requirements. That is, both devices should:
- Be near each other
- Be signed into iCloud with the same Apple ID
- Have Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Handoff turned on
To turn on Handoff on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod:
- Go to Settings > General > AirPlay & Handoff.
- Toggle Handoff.
To turn on Handoff on your Mac:
- Click the Apple logo at the leftmost side of the menu bar.
- Go to System Preferences > General, then choose Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices.
How to Use Universal Clipboard
Once enabled, any content you copy from one device will be stored to the other device’s clipboard. That allows you to simply paste content on another device.
So all you need to do is copy as you normally would on your iPhone, then paste on your Mac. Or the other way around. It’s really that simple.
What’s more, if you have another Mac, you can use this feature to copy-paste files, much like AirDrop, only this is even easier.

Seamless Productivity
Let’s face it; sometimes, we need more than one device to work and be productive.
With the Universal Clipboard, you can make your productivity flow seamlessly and effortlessly across devices.
